Chapter 7 Reflection

Chapter 7 Reflection:

Before the world of technology, from the 1450s to 1880s, type was created all by hand. Hand composing type was very tedious and time consuming because every letter needed to be placed by hand along with spaces and other necessary justifications. The linotype machine was created in 1886, and it really helped with the automation of typography when it came to typing the letters, justifying the line, and even spacing words. After many other variations of machines, we are now in the era of digital typesetting. We are able to create, move, and form type in a digital setting where every detail of a single type can be defined on a grid including strokes and curves. Web typography is wonderful because we not only read the type, but we are able to engage with it; we can click links, hover over things, etc.
